Expeditors International of Washington, Inc. is seeking an experienced attorney specializing in international labor and employment law. The position will be located at Expeditors branch office in India.

​​​​​​The Commercial Contracts Attorney will join a world-class legal department and devote time to a wide variety of labour and employment legal matters, primarily in the Asia Pacific and MAIR regions.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Supporting and advising business teams, including executives, managers, employee relations, information services, and operations regarding compliance with existing and forthcoming labor and employment laws and regulations.

  • Advising on issues such as discipline, non-competition, redundancies, leave, disability, contingent workers, equity, contractor management, occupational health and safety, anti-discrimination, wage and hour, and union/labor relations

  • Drafting service provider, commission, non-compete, handbooks and policies, employment, and settlement agreements

  • Conducting internal investigations

  • Managing litigation, outside counsel, and budgets

Travel: Expected 5% to 15%; Valid passport/authorized to travel internationally

  • Juris Doctorate, Bachelor of Laws, or equivalent degree in Laws

  • Licensed/authorized to practice law in any jurisdiction in the US or in any jurisdiction within the APAC and MAIR regions, in good standing

  • At least 5 years of experience in a top law firm preferred

  • In-house experience working in the law department of a Fortune 500 company highly desirable, but not required

  • Strong knowledge of, and practical experience advising on labor and employment laws and regulations

  • Practical experience working with trade unions preferred

  • The ability to identify, analyze, assess, and communicate legal risks to enable internal clients to make quality, risk-adjusted business decisions.

  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills with high level of attention to detail and accuracy

  • Excellent business judgment and ability to work independently

  • Fluent oral and written English required. Fluency in additional languages an asset
